Burris Hopes for Meeting With Reid

Former Illinois Attorney General Roland Burris (D), tapped by embattled Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D) to replace President-elect Barack Obama in the Senate, said Friday that he fully expects to be turned away when he attempts to be seated in the Senate next week, but that he hopes to press his case in an as-yet-unscheduled meeting with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.).


House to Take Up Labor Issues Next Week

In addition to counting presidential electoral votes and setting its internal rules for the 111th Congress, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) announced Friday that two labor-related bills will come to the floor when the House convenes next week.

Denver Schools Chief to Be New Senator

Colorado media were reporting Friday that Michael Bennet, the superintendent of the Denver Public Schools, will be tapped to replace Sen. Ken Salazar (D-Colo.) in the Senate assuming Salazar is confirmed as President-elect Barack Obama’s Interior secretary.

Boehner to Join Meeting With Obama Monday, Expresses Doubt Over Stimulus Plan

House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) will join Congressional leaders in a meeting with President-elect Barack Obama on Monday, his office announced on Friday.
