TO: ALL STATE IV-D DIRECTORS

RE: The Family Violence Indicator: A Guide to State Practices

Dear Colleague:

Enclosed is the Federal Office of Child Support Enforcement (OCSE) 2000 Edition of The Family Violence Indicator: A Guide to State Practices. This publication outlines the initial decision-making process that each State went through on the issues related to the Family Violence (FV) Indicator, an important component of the Federal Case Registry (FCR) and the State Case Registries (SCRs). The 2000 version updates the information provided in the December 1998 draft edition.

Due to the fact that this is an area that is constantly evolving, the material presented will be revisited periodically. Updated information will be offered on the OCSE website at www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/cse

Please refer questions about the FV Indicator to the FCR FV Indicator Coordinator, June Melvin Mickens (301) 847-9495. For questions on other areas of child support involving domestic violence, please contact Susan Notar, the ACF Domestic Violence Liaison (202) 401-4606.

Thank you for your continued efforts on behalf of our nation's children.

Sincerely,

David Gray Ross
Commissioner
Office of Child Support Enforcement
