To be the nation's leading organization of professionals
dedicated to advancing the role of dams for the benefit of society.

USSD MISSION--
USSD SUSTAINING MEMBERS--
  • Advancing the knowledge of dam engineering, construction, planning, operation, performance, rehabilitation, decommissioning, maintenance, security and safety;
  • Fostering dam technology for socially, environmentally and financially sustainable water resources systems;
  • Providing public awareness of the role of dams in the management of the nation's water resources;
  • Enhancing practices to meet current and future challenges on dams; and
  • Representing the United States as an active member of the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD).

U.S. SOCIETY ON DAMS--
  • Provides technology transfer to professionals throughout the United States and the world.
  • Publishes a newsletter for USSD Members.
  • Is the United States member of the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD), an international organization of more than 80 countries founded in 1928. ICOLD is the leading non-governmental organization devoted to the issues of dams and dam engineering, including dam safety.
  • Is governed by a twelve-member Board of Directors, elected by USSD Members. The Board meets twice annually to review USSD activities and set policies. USSD is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) scientific and educational organization.
