WICHITA, Kan. -- The four state-federal disaster recovery centers (DRCs) in Allen, Miami and Montgomery counties have new Saturday hours beginning August 18. The hours will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This change does NOT affect the Kiowa County DRC that is closing this Saturday. Those hours are still 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Disaster Recovery Centers provide residents an opportunity to meet face to face with representatives from state and federal agencies to find answers to questions they may have about the recovery process.

FEMA disaster assistance covers basic needs only and will not normally compensate you for your entire loss. If you have insurance, the government may help pay for basic needs not covered under your insurance policy.

Some disaster aid does not have to be paid back, while other help may come in the form of loans. The FEMA representative will explain the details.

Low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration will also be available to cover residential and business losses not fully compensated by insurance.

The telephone registration line, 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., CDT, Monday through Saturday. The TTY number for residents with special speech or hearing needs is TTY 1-800-462-7585.  Register online at www.fema.gov.

FEMA Individual Assistance (IA) programs are available to eligible applicants to cover disaster-related serious needs and necessary expenses not covered by insurance. IA can take the form of rental assistance; repair and replacement assistance for homeowners; and, through the Other Needs Assistance portion of the IA program, personal property, transportation, medical, dental, and funeral expenses.

SBA low interest disaster loans can help homeowners, renters, businesses of all sizes, and private non-profit organizations pay for their disaster losses. They also will meet with applicants one-on-one and assist them in filling out their loan applications. Anyone not able to visit a center should call 1-800-659-2955 for SBA assistance or visit the website at www.sba.gov/services/disasterassistance.

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
