Mrs. Bush's Remarks After Visit to "Pompeii and the Roman Villa: Art and Culture Around the Bay of Naples" Exhibit
National Gallery of Art
Washington, D.C.

12:01 P.M. EDT

MRS. BUSH: We just saw a sneak preview of the new show on Pompeii that's just opened here -- or actually opens next weekend at the National Gallery. And so we got an early tour of it and got to see the really unbelievable art that's on loan here to the United States at our National Gallery. And I want to thank the people of Italy for allowing this show to go on.

As a little girl, I was always very fascinated with the idea of Pompeii -- I think a lot of Americans were -- the idea of people being caught the way they were, at their dinner table, and the stories of what was found in those homes under the ash. And so I know Americans will really love having the chance to see this show here at the National Gallery.

Thank you, Mr. Prime Minister. I look forward to our dinner tonight. It will be a lot of fun. Good to see you. Thank you. Thank you for joining us and visiting us.

Thanks, everybody. Good to see you all.
