Mrs. Bush's Remarks at the Presentation of An Ambulance to First Lady of Tanzania Mrs. Kikwete
WAMA Foundation
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

     Fact sheet Africa Trip 2008

9:59 A.M. (Local)

MRS. BUSH: I heard this story that Madame Kikwete was at a hospital with our head of USAID in Tanzania, Pam White, and the head of the hospital said the thing he needed most was transportation for patients, for emergency use. And so USAID -- Pam White, our USAID person here, went back and talked to USAID and was able to get this ambulance.

Mrs. Laura Bush and Mrs. Salma Kikwete, First Lady of Tanzania, exchange handshakes after Mrs. Bush presented Mrs. Kikwete with keys to an ambulance Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008, during her visit to Dar es Salaam. The ambulance will be donated to Sokoine Regional Hospital and will be used in the Lindi Region, one of the poorest and neediest in the country. The donation was a result of a joint visit to the hospital by Mrs. Kikwete and Pam White, left, USAID Mission Director. White House photo by Shealah Craighead And so it's my pleasure and thrill to be able to give you the keys. (Applause.)

MRS. KIKWETE: Thank you so much.

MRS. BUSH: Thank you so much. Thank you for being such a wonderful leader for your country.

MRS. KIKWETE: Thank you.

MRS. BUSH: Thank you very much.

MRS. KIKWETE: Asante sana.

MRS. BUSH: Asante sana.
