Mrs. Bush's Remarks in a Roundtable Discussion
Queen Geraldine University Hospital for Obstetrics and Gynecology - Women's Wellness Center
Tirana, Albania

2:58 P.M. (Local)

MRS. BUSH: Well, I'm so happy to have this chance to be here today, to have the chance to accompany President Bush on this historic visit for both the United States and Albania to Albania.

And I've had a very good chance today to see some terrific programs, and also to meet women from Albania, women leaders who were at lunch with me -- Dr. Berisha, of course, and other women deputy ministers in the government who were at lunch with me today. And we had a very interesting conversation about the leadership role women can play here in Albania, in the United States, and then around the world, especially as we work together speaking out about women's rights around the world.

And of course, women are very concerned about children. We are often the ones who take care of children in our homes, and also in our public roles. And so I've seen some interesting things today -- the very sweet Bethany center here that is a place for children who either have been abandoned or cannot be with their parents for some reason or another. And that was a very moving and sweet visit to the Bethany center.

But now, here at the Women's Wellness Center, we're also talking about the way women receive health care and the way that can benefit their babies and their children, if their children also receive -- if they've received good prenatal care when they're pregnant, and then their children receive good care of a pediatrician as they grow up.

So thank you all very much. Thank you for letting me visit here and for accompanying me on this visit. Thank you, Dr. Berisha.
