Mrs. Bush's Remarks at Senate Spouses Luncheon Featuring the Philadelphia Boys Choir
As Delivered
The East Room

What fabulous music! Thank you Philadelphia Boys Choir and your director Dr. Robert Hamilton.

This choir's popularity stretches far beyond the borders of our nation; they are recognized and respected throughout the world. In fact, they've just returned from a tour through Asia.

President Bush and I are proud to recognize you as ambassadors of American goodwill.

White House photo by Susan SternerThe Philadelphia Boys choir has brought smiles to faces around the world, in continents and countries too numerous to count. This choir is no stranger to the White House, either, and I can't think of a better sound to fill these walls than these mighty young voices.

Dr. Hamilton, boys, thank you for the spectacular performance, and I wish you all the best for the remainder of your concert season.

Mrs. Cheney, Mrs. Hollings, Senate Spouses, thank you for joining me here today. I also want to recognize Mrs. Laxalt and the Associate Senate Spouses who continue to care and serve the needs of our country. Thank you for being here today.

I know that each of you share my strong commitment to children and their education.

I am so pleased to tell you that a donation of books is being made in the name of the Senate Spouses to the P.R. Harris Educational Center.

I visited P.R. Harris earlier this year to promote DC Fellows, which is a teacher recruitment program for district schools. I am impressed by the energetic young students at P.R Harris, and the enthusiasm and strong commitment of their teachers and principal. So I know this contribution will make a big difference.

President Bush and I want to make sure that more children grow up with a love of reading so they can succeed in school and in life. We're glad to have the help and support of the Senate Spouses and its Associate Members.

Thank you for coming. Thank you for your dedication to our nation's children. Have a great afternoon.
