Mississippi River Headwaters Reservoir Operating Plan Evaluation (ROPE)
What's New

Overview

The Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Forest Service are working on a jointly sponsored, long-range reservoir operating plan study for the Mississippi River Headwaters reservoirs. The study began in December 2001 and is expected to be completed in 2009. The primary purpose of the study is to evaluate alternative plans for each of the seven existing federal reservoirs and try to improve systemwide operations of all the Mississippi Headwaters reservoirs and stewardship of this important resource.

Public meetings were held in August of 2006 to present the preliminary draft operating plans for the purpose of soliciting public comment. Since the public meetings, the study team has modified the operating plans based on public input. Those plans were evaluated and a plan has been proposed for implementation in the draft integrated report and EIS above. If all goes well, new operating plans will be implemented in the spring of 2009.
