Public Meeting to Address Codex Committee on Residues of Veterinary Drugs In Food

WASHINGTON, April 19, 2006 - The U.S. Department of
Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) and the Food
and Drug Administration's (FDA) Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM)
today announced a public meeting to provide information and receive
comments on agenda items that will be discussed at the Sixteenth Session
of the Codex Committee on Residues in Veterinary Drugs in Food (CCRVDF),
in Cancun, Mexico, May 8-12, 2006.
The public meeting will be held in Room 1160, South Agriculture Building,
1400 Independence Avenue, SW., Washington, D.C., from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on
Wednesday, April 26, 2006. An agenda will be available prior to the meeting

Codex was created in 1963 by two United Nations organizations: the Food and
Agriculture Organization and the World Health Organization. Codex develops food
standards, guidelines and codes of practice in order to protect the health of
consumers, ensure fair food trade practices and promote coordination of food
standards undertaken by international governmental and non-governmental organizations.
FSIS invites interested persons to submit comments on this notice. All comments must
be received by mail or electronic mail and will be posted on FSIS' Web site at
www.fsis.usda.gov/regulations/2006_notices_index/.
