Request for Comments and Scientific Information

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is seeking stakeholder input on the progress and strategic goals of the NIOSH FFFIPP to ensure that the program is meeting the needs of the stakeholders, and to identify ways in which the program can be improved to increase its impact on the safety and health of fire fighters across the United States.

The draft strategic plan is available though this web site at the link below. Comments on the draft strategic plan and the FFFIPP will be accepted through December 19, 2008. Reference Docket Number 063-A for all submissions related to this topic. Interested persons or organizations are invited to participate in this process by submitting written views, arguments, recommendations, and scientific data. Comments are invited on any topic related to the FFFIPP.

Docket Number 063 is a collection of documents related to the development and progress of the FFFIPP. A NIOSH public meeting held in March 2006 discussed the progress and future direction of the FFFIPP, stakeholder needs, and enhancing the impact of the FFFIPP. A NIOSH public meeting held on November 19, 2008 discussed similar topics as well as a draft strategic plan. Official comments provided to Docket Number 063-A relating to the Fire Fighter Fatality Investigation and Prevention Program shall be evaluated and considered in the improvement and strategic planning of the program.

Public Comment Period

Written comments on the document, the FFFIPP and resource information will be accepted through December 19, 2008 in accordance with the instructions below. All material submitted to NIOSH should reference Docket Number NIOSH-063-A. All electronic comments should be formatted as Microsoft Word and make reference to docket number NIOSH-063-A.

Comments will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. ET on December 19, 2008
