Sharon Robinson, baseball legend Jackie Robinson's daughter
and director of educational programming for the Office of the Commissioner
of Major League Baseball, came to the Library of Congress to discuss her
newly published book, Jackie's Nine: Jackie Robinson's Values to Live By,
(Scholastic Inc. 2001). As any baseball fan can relate, the revered Robinson
was the first African American to play major league baseball. Jackie's Nine
is an anthology through which Sharon Robinson explores the nine values that
helped her father achieve his goals.
Rachel Robinson, widow of baseball legend Jackie Robinson, who accompanied her daughter and who spoke briefly, was also honored for donating her husband's papers to the Library of Congress. Part of the Center for the Book's series of author talks, the Books and Beyond program is free and open to the public. This talk was co-sponsored with the District of Columbia Center for the Book and was held at noon on Tuesday, November 6, 20001.
