A memorial service for Librarian of Congress Emeritus Daniel J. Boorstin, who died on Feb. 28, was held on April 27, in the Coolidge Auditorium of the Thomas Jefferson Building.

Boorstin, who died at the age of 89, was Librarian of Congress from 1975 until he retired in 1987. A prize-winning historian, he was eulogized Librarian of Congress James H. Billington as a "great American " and "a matchless chronicler of the uniqueness, the innovative spirit and the everyday practicality of our shared American experience."

Family members, colleagues, friends and staff members remembered Daniel Boorstin for his administrative abilities, his scholarship and productivity, his friendship and as a loving and attentive grandparent.
