Performance Report of the Nutrition and Physical Activity Program to Prevent Obesity and Other Chronic DiseasesCDC’s State-Based Nutrition and Physical Activity Program to Prevent Obesity and Other Chronic Diseases

Created in 1999, the Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity Program (NPAO) currently works with 23 states to build lasting and comprehensive efforts to address obesity and other chronic diseases through a variety of nutrition and physical activity strategies. For more on what we do, go to the About Us section.

From individual behavior change to changes in public policy, state efforts aim to engage multiple levels of society; this is called the Social-Ecological Model, and it is a cornerstone of our approach. To read about specific nutrition and physical activity interventions that our funded states are developing, implementing, or evaluating, go to State Stories.
