SUBJECT: TRIBAL IV-D CHILD SUPPORT ENFORCEMENT COMPUTER-BASED TRAINING (CBT) COURSES: ORIENTATION, LOCATE, PATERNITY ESTABLISHMENT, ENFORCEMENT AND INTERGOVERNMENTAL CASES

Dear Colleague:

The Federal Office of Child Support Enforcement (OCSE) has developed five computer-based and web-based training courses targeted for Tribal child support enforcement caseworkers and other interested individuals. The training is organized around procedures in the final rule for Tribal Child Support Enforcement Programs published in the Federal Register on March 30, 2004 (69 FR 16638) implementing section 455(f) of the Social Security Act. The courses are:

Tribal Child Support Enforcement – Orientation;
Tribal Child Support Enforcement – Locate;
Tribal Child Support Enforcement – Paternity Establishment;
Tribal Child Support Enforcement – Enforcement;
Tribal Child Support Enforcement - Intergovernmental Cases

The courses are available on our website at

CD-ROMs are also available for those without internet access.

The courses are interactive and can be done at one’s own pace. There are two versions of the training which allow the trainee to select either a Flash (standard) version or a version which is in compliance with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Each course begins with a Welcome from the Commissioner and has several modules. Within each module, there are lessons. To maximize learning efficiency and retention, at the end of each module is a quiz. Users are encouraged to work through the modules sequentially. In addition, a glossary of terms and acronyms has been included in the modules and is linked to the glossary on the OCSE website. There are also hypertext links to OCSE’s website which allow the learner to access the National Electronic Child Support Resource System (NECSRS). NECSRS is an electronic clearinghouse of resource materials on child support enforcement from Federal, State, local and Tribal Child Support Enforcement organizations.

The target audience for this training includes start-up Tribal IV-D programs and comprehensive Tribal IV-D program staff, Tribal caseworkers, members of the National Tribal Child Support Association and anyone who is interested in learning about Tribal IV-D programs.
