Summary

GAO reviewed the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services' (CMS) new rule on inpatient the rehabilitation facility prospective payment system and fiscal year 2004 rates. GAO found (1) the rule would establish the prospective payment rates for inpatient hospital service furnished under Medicare by inpatient rehabilitation facilities for fiscal year 2004; and (2) CMS complied with applicable requirements in promulgating the rule.
