DEP preserves the ecological integrity of the Garden State and maintains and transforms places into healthy, sustainable communities. Our mission is critical to ensuring a high, overall quality of life for all New Jerseyans and that mission can most efficiently and effectively be accomplished through continual improvement in our programs and operations.
In support of this mission, Commissioner Jackson signed Administrative Order 2008-06 (pdf). The Order creates the DEP Permit Efficiency Review Task Force.
The deliberations of this Task Force will be an important element in efforts to achieve many of the goals in the Department's Action Plan (pdf), particularly goals dealing with smart growth and sustainable development. More specifically, the purpose of the Task Force is to conduct a comprehensive analysis of DEP permitting programs and make recommendations for restructuring and re-engineering that will result in enhancing timely and efficient service and enhancing this Department's ability to advance sustainable development projects.
The Task Force will develop its important recommendations over a period of 120 days.
Commissioner Jackson announced this effort to staff and said, “I am personally excited about establishment of this Task Force and am confident it will result in sound recommendations to strengthen this Department and its efforts to protect public health, the environment and New Jersey's precious natural resources. Key members of DEP's senior staff will be working closely with the Task Force and I will personally be dedicating time and energy to its success.”
