CAROL CASTIEL

As Director of the Public Affairs Unit of VOA’s English Language Division, Carol Castiel is responsible for producing International Press Club, Press Conference USA, Encounter, and Issues in the News. She is the editor of International Press Club, a weekly show that captures reaction by respected media analysts to U.S. foreign policy. Carol writes, hosts, and produces the weekend news analysis programs, Press Conference USA and Encounter.  She also oversees the production of Issues in the News, VOA’s roundup of the week’s top stories by distinguished Washington journalists.

Prior to becoming Director of VOA’s Public Affairs Unit, Carol wrote, edited, and produced the former documentary program, Dateline. She also anchored live newscasts for VOA News Now and worked in VOA's English-to-Africa Division.

Before joining the Voice of America, Carol was a consultant/free-lance journalist specializing in the promotion of trade and investment between the United States and Africa. She was also a contributing editor to the London-based West Africa Magazine.  Carol has traveled widely in Africa, Europe and South America and is fluent in Portuguese, French, and Spanish.  She holds an M.A. degree in International Affairs from the University of Pittsburgh. Carol is especially fascinated and inspired by the history and culture of medieval Spain known in Arabic as “Al-Andalus.” 


JUDITH LATHAM

Judith Latham is an international radio broadcaster in the Public Affairs Unit of VOA’s English Language Division. She is the host of International Press Club, a weekly program that captures reaction by respected media analysts to U.S. foreign policy. International Press Club is heard on VOA News Now and is adapted for broadcast by other VOA language services. Judith has a B.A. degree in history from Duke University and an M.A. degree in history from Roosevelt University. She has lived and worked in Europe and the Middle East, and her fields of specialty are Central and Eastern Europe, the Islamic world, national and ethnic minorities, conflict resolution, and human rights.

Previously Judith was a regular contributor to the former documentary program Dateline.  She wrote feature programs on education, Islam in America, and post-Communist Eastern Europe, and she edited the former Voice magazine for VOA listeners.  Judith is also the author of The Roma of the Former Yugoslavia and From Author to Reader: A Manual for Writers. Her hobbies are classical music, poetry, repertory theatre, and foreign travel.


ANNA ZALEWSKI

Anna Zalewski is an international radio broadcaster in the Public Affairs Unit of VOA’s English Language Division. She is the editor, coordinator, and producer of Issues in the News, a popular weekly program in which three distinguished Washington journalists discuss the week’s top stories in the United States and the world.  Anna, known as “Ania” to her friends, often selects the topics, books guests, and coordinates such prime-time English programs as Encounter and Press Conference USA for the Public Affairs Unit.

Previously Ania worked for many years in VOA’s Polish Service as its chief producer and host of the weekly Book World program.  She is from Wroclaw, Poland, where she graduated with an M.A. degree in British Literature from the University of Wroclaw.  Ania has traveled widely, loves reading, art, and many outdoor sports.


SUBHASH VOHRA

Subhash Vohra is the web editor for VOA’s public affairs programs, which include Press Conference USA, Encounter, Issues in the News, and International Press Club. He also is responsible for editing and preparing Talking History, a weekly show from the Organization of American Historians, for VOA News Now’s broadcasts. In addition, Subhash provides assistance to VOA’s daily call-in radio program, Talk to America. Periodically, he writes news and feature stories for VOA News Now, which are translated and used by several language services.

Prior to joining the English Programs Division, Subhash worked for 15 years as a writer, editor, host and producer in VOA’s Hindi Service. Before joining Voice of America in November 1987, Subhash had 18 years of broadcasting experience at “All India Radio and Television” in New Delhi, at the BBC in London, and at Deutsche Welle, Germany’s international broadcasting organization based in Cologne.

Subhash has an M.A. degree in International Affairs from Georgetown University in Washington D.C. and an advanced degree in German language from Goethe Institute, Munich. He is fluent in English, Hindi, German, Punjabi and Urdu and also speaks French and Spanish. His hobbies include traveling, listening to Indian music, and reading.
