Dissatisfaction with the shortcomings of the presently-available portables
led me to buy a Sound Devices 744T, mainly because I admire this company's
preamps.
People who record sound for film & tv seem to like it, but I think that the
designer made too many poor ergonomic decisions. While it provides a
remarkable range of facilities, I find it just too hard to use.
Unfortunately, I couldn't afford a Nagra V.
