Based on the news these days of disasters and floods, and the average
budget for those organizations preserving them, it won't be simple old
age that finally does it, regrettably....

Well, from what I've seen shellac 78's don't seem likely to crumble into
dust (or otherwise degrade) barring fire, flood or being dropped.
I have near-mint 78's that are approaching their first century of
existence that look (and play) as well as they probably ever did!
