Plextor - like many hardware manufacturers - are faced with ever dropping
market prices, hence shrinking margins.
Plextor had an excellent professional writer for CD mastering: the
PlexMaster, but no longer available because it isn't RoHS/WEEE compliant.
Since new environmental regulations (RoHS, WEEE directives) came into force,
a lot of the materials and components used in existing Pro equipment don't
comply, and can't be sold any longer - what a pity.
Manufacturers cannot afford to do a hardware redesign for a small market and
thin margins.
Dilemma: go out of business, or sell compliant OEM products.
