President Clinton signed the FY 1997 Legislative Branch Appropriations Bill, H.R. 3754, which includes funding for the Library, on Monday, Sept. 16. Congress sent the bill to President Clinton on Thursday, Sept. 5. The new fiscal year begins on Oct. 1.
H.R. 3754 contains $2.166 billion in total funding for the legislative branch, which includes Congress and all legislative branch agencies. This amount of funding is $21 million below the FY 1996 level and $225 million below the FY 1995 level. H.R. 3754 contained funding for the Library of $361,896,000, including the authority to spend $30,138,000 in receipts. This budget will represent a 2.7 percent increase over the FY 1996 level of $352,399,000, which includes $27,699,000 in receipts.
