The selected health departments were categorized into the following geographic locations: Northeast: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Rhode Island, and Vermont; Midwest: Chicago, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, and Wisconsin; South: Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Houston, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia; and West: California, Colorado, Idaho, Los Angeles, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, San Francisco, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands are shown separately.

** Includes HIV tests of persons who had sex with a partner at risk, who had a diagnosis of a sexually transmitted disease, who exchanged sex for drugs or money, who had sex while using non-injection drugs, who were victims of sexual assault, and whose only risk factor was heterosexual contact.
†† Includes HIV tests of persons who reported hemophilia, receipt of a blood transfusion, health care exposure, other, and unspecified risks.
¶¶ Testing site types were categorized into the following setting types: Clinical: sexually transmitted diseases clinic, drug treatment center, family planning clinic, prenatal/obstetrical & gynecological clinic, tuberculosis clinic, community health center/public health center, prison/jail, and hospital/private medical doctor’s office; Non-clinical: HIV counseling and testing center and field visit; and Unspecified location (e.g., college and Job Corps).
*** The number of records does not add up to the total number of records due to missing information. The percentage of missing data for this variable was 18.2% and 20.5% for Hispanics and non-Hispanic whites.
††† The number of records does not add up to the total number of records due to missing information. This variable was calculated for records of persons who received test results and posttest counseling. The percentage of missing data for this variable was 10.9% and 12.9% for Hispanics and non-Hispanic whites.
