National Society of Black Engineers

 


The mission of the United States Naval Academy is to develop midshipmen morally, mentally and physically and to imbue them with the highest ideals of duty, honor and loyalty in order to provide graduates who are dedicated to a career of naval service and have potential for future development in mind and character to assume the highest responsibilities of command, citizenship and government.


The mission of the National Society of Black Engineers is to increase the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community.


PREAMBLE

Engineering For A Better Tomorrow, as a midshipman-based organization, does hereby dedicate itself to the development of intensive programs for increasing Black and other ethnic minority participation in the field of engineering and engineering technology. These programs will be initiated both within and outside the Naval Academy community and will serve to strengthen relations between professional societies. This organization will endeavor to provide general counseling to all.

 OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the chapter shall be the recruitment of Black and other ethnic minorities in Group I (engineering based) and Group II (science based) majors at the Naval Academy; to establish a formal support group to keep those midshipmen in those majors; to promote a better understanding of the field of engineering by Black and ethnic minority midshipmen; and to provide means of showcasing the Naval Academy's excellent engineering program in the minority community, thus attracting potential faculty and candidates.
