To help broaden the research base of early childhood, the National Institute on Early Childhood Development and Education supports:

Research and Development Centers

Providing a stable foundation for long-term research and development regarding the development and education of young children, ECI supports the National Center for Early Childhood Development and Learning and the Center for the Improvement of Early Reading Achievement (CIERA). Research and Demonstration Projects

ECI awards competitive grants to support research projects that focus on child development and learning; involve communities, families, and professionals; and include other federally-supported activities.

The Early Childhood Research Working Group

A group of representatives from approximately 30 Federal agencies that support research, data collection, and services for young children and their families.
