NCES 2006166 1993/03 Baccalaureate and Beyond Longitudinal Study (B&B:93/03) Methodology Report
This report describes the procedures and results of the full-scale implementation of the B&B:93/03 study. Students who earned a bachelor's degree in 1992-93 were first interviewed in 1993 and then subsequently in 1994 and 1997. This is the final follow-up interview of the B&B:93 cohort, 10 years following completion of the bachelor's degree. The results of this study offer an opportunity to assess the value of a baccalaureate degree at a time when sample members are becoming established in their careers. Specific topics of interest include length of time to complete a baccalaureate degree, the pursuit of additional postsecondary education beyond a bachelor's degree, and employment outcomes.

NCES 2005175 Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System Data Quality Study
The purpose of this study was to assess the quality of IPEDS data that were collected using web-based data collection procedures in 2002–03. The evaluation used information originally collected from Title IV institutions in 2002–03 and new or modified information collected by the Prior Year Data Revision System in 2003–04. Additionally, the evaluation used information from the Thomson Corporation (Thomson Peterson data) to assist in the assessment of IPEDS data when compared to data collected by non-IPEDS sources. The study compared data collected at two different data collection points for eight IPEDS components: Tuition and Price, Employees by Assigned Position, Completions, Enrollment, Student Financial Aid, Finance, Salaries, and Graduation Rates. Within each component, the analyses examined: the number of institutions making changes, the types of changes made, the magnitude of changes, and the impact of changes to published data. Based on revised submissions by eligible Title IV institutions it was concluded that IPEDS data for the 2002–03 academic year were accurate. Very few institutions modified their submissions and among those that did, the magnitude of the change had very little impact on originally reported data. Additionally, information was more likely to be found in IPEDS than in Thomson Peterson. Given that Thomson Peterson is one of the largest postsecondary databases, results tend to confirm the perception that IPEDS is the most comprehensive data system available for information related to postsecondary education.

Data were requested from nearly 6,600 postsecondary institutions participating in Title IV federal student financial aid programs. The tables in this publication present counts of institutions by selected institutional characteristics including tuition, fees, and other costs. Tables also present data on the number of degrees and other formal awards conferred during the period July 1, 2003 through June 30, 2004 by Title IV postsecondary institutions.

NCES 2005160 Feasibility of a Student Unit Record System Within the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System
This report describes the feasibility of collecting individual enrollment and financial aid information for each student in postsecondary education. NCES held three public meetings with key stakeholders from institutions, states and other interested parties to get feedback on such issues as burden, cost, and privacy, and to solicit information on other technical aspects of developing such a unit record system. This report details the issues discussed in these meetings. This feasibility study is an important step to determine the problems that may be encountered and the issues to be addressed if Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System were redesigned to replace five current IPEDS surveys with a unit record system.

In addition, the report contains detailed information on individual HBCUs, with trends in enrollment, and detailed data on degrees, staff, and finances for recent years.

NCES 2003173 CD-ROM: Baccalaureate and Beyond Longitudinal Study Data Analysis System (DAS) B&B:2000/01
The DAS CD-ROM contains the most recent postsecondary longitudinal data release, B&B:2000/01, as well as all other released DASs current as of August 2003. These data sets are for public use and do not allow a user direct access to the data, but do allow them to design and run basic analyses specific to their needs.

NCES 2002025 The Condition of Education 2002
The Condition of Education summarizes important developments and trends in education using the latest available data. The report, which is required by law, is an indicator report intended for a general audience of readers who are interested in education. The indicators represent a consensus of professional judgment on the most significant national measures of the condition and progress of education for which accurate data are available. The 2002 print edition includes 44 indicators in six main areas: (1) enrollment trends and student characteristics at all levels of the education system from preprimary education to adult learning; (2) student achievement and the longer term, enduring effects of education; (3) student effort and rates of progress through the educational system among different population groups; (4) the quality of elementary and secondary education in terms of courses taken, teacher characteristics, and other factors; (5) the context of postsecondary education; (6) and societal support for learning, including parental and community support for learning, and public and private financial support of education at all levels. This edition also includes special analyses on the environment, climate, and student outcomes at private schools and on the enrollment and persistence of nontraditional undergraduates.

NCES 2002165 Classification of Instructional Programs: 2000 Edition
The CIP is a taxonomic coding scheme that contains titles and descriptions of primarily postsecondary instructional programs. It was developed to facilitate NCES’ collection and reporting of postsecondary degree completions by major field of study using standard classifications that capture the majority of reportable program activity. The CIP: 2000 edition is the third revision of the CIP. It was originally published in 1980 and was revised in 1985 and 1990. The CIP is the accepted federal government statistical standard on instructional program classifications and the 2000 edition has been adopted as the standard field of study taxonomy by Statistics Canada.
