NCES 1999352 SASS-Schools and Staffing Survey
This report describes the Schools and Staffing Survey (SASS), the largest survey of the characteristics and conditions of the nation’s elementary and secondary schools. SASS collects information on public, charter, private, and Bureau of Indian Affairs schools, including school districts, principals, teachers, and school libraries. The report provides information on the survey content, questionnaires, sample sizes, and schedule for the next administration in the 1999-2000 school year. Also included are abstracts of SASS methodological studies and a listing of SASS data products and publications.

Each issue includes: short publications (those less than 15 pages in length) in their entirety, executive summaries of longer publications, descriptive paragraphs of other NCES products, as well as notices about training and funding opportunities. In addition, each issue includes a featured publication with invited commentary pieces, a note on a current topic from a staff member, and a message from NCES.

NCES 199913 1993-94 Schools and Staffing Survey: Data File User's Manual, Volume IV: Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) Restricted-Use Codebook
This volume of the Data File User's Manual contains the unweighted counts of responses to all SASS questionnaires administered to Bureau of Indian Affairs or tribally-operated schools, their teachers, and their principals. The file for BIA schools, principals, and teachers is produced only for researchers, as the number of BIA schools is small. Additionally, this codebook includes responses to the Student Records data file, as a number of items pertain to American Indian students. The questionnaires were published in the Data File User's Manual, Volume I (Survey Documentation).

NCES 97449 Schools and Staffing Survey: Student Records Questionnaire: School Year 1993-94, With Special Emphasis on American Indians and Alaska Native Students
This E.D. TAB uses data from the component of SASS called the Student Records Questionnaire. The data for the Student Records Questionnaire were collected from public school, private schools, and schools funded by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The purpose of the Student Records component of SASS was to collect data that can be used to examine the distribution of school programs and quality teachers among students of differing demographic and academic characteristics and to describe the participation of students in school programs and services.
