Averaged Freshman Graduation Rates by Race and Ethnicity: School Year 2004–05

The Averaged Freshman Graduation Rate (AFGR) is an estimate of the percentage of the entering high school freshman class graduating in four years. The 2004-05 school year rate equals the number of students receiving high school diplomas that year divided by the average membership of the 8th grade class in 2000-01, the 9th grade class in 2001-02, and the 10th grade class in 2002-03. Membership is averaged for these three grades to control for students who take more than four years to complete high school. The AFGR is not adjusted to account for students transferring into, or out of, public schools between the 2000-01 and 2004-05 school years. Because of this, changes in enrollment among relatively small groups of students can affect the reliability of the AFGR, in some cases producing graduation rate estimates of more than 100 percent. Rates of more than 100 percent have been excluded from the tables that are published on this site. Readers should interpret the published AFGRs cautiously when they include relatively small groups of students.

Public School Graduates and Dropouts from the Common Core of Data: School Year 2005–06

These tables are from the report "Public School Graduates and Dropouts from the Common Core of Data: School Year 2005–06" (NCES 2008-353rev). They present the number of high school graduates, the Averaged Freshman Graduation Rate (AFGR), and dropout data for grades 9 through 12 for public schools in school year 2005–06. The counts of graduates, dropouts, and enrollments by grade (which serve as the denominators for the graduation and dropout rates) are from the Common Core of Data (CCD) nonfiscal surveys of public elementary/secondary education. These data represent high school graduates receiving regular diplomas for the 2005–06 school year and dropouts from the 2005–06 school year.
