Disaster Recovery Center Opens in Trousdale, Edwards County

WICHITA, Kan. -- A third federal-state Disaster Recovery Center is now available to help Kansans affected by this month's severe storms, tornadoes and flooding.
The mobile center operated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is located in Trousdale City Park, at Cooper and Main Streets. Hours will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week until further notice.
"We want to provide a convenient location for homeowners, renters and businesses in Edwards, Pratt and Stafford counties that were added last week to President Bush's May 6 disaster declaration," Michael L. Karl, federal coordinating officer, said.
The center is staffed by representatives from FEMA, who can answer questions about registering for disaster assistance and hazard mitigation, and from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to help with disaster loan applications.
Disaster victims are urged to register for assistance first by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585 for hearing- or speech-impaired applicants. For on-line registrations, go to www.fema.gov.
"You can find written materials about assistance programs and what state and federal agencies you need to contact for assistance," Angee Morgan, state coordinating officer, said.
Other Disaster Recovery Centers are open seven days a week in Greensburg's Court House Square and in Haviland at Barclay Community College.
FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
