Federal/State Disaster Recovery Center Opens Tomorrow In Alfred

SCARBOROUGH, Maine - Officials from Maine Emergency Management Agency and the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will open a Disaster Recovery Center at 5 Swetts Bridge Road in Alfred to assist individuals and business owners affected by the severe storms and flooding that occurred April 15-23. The center is to be open May 11 and operate from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m on May 11, 12, 14 and 15. It will be closed Sunday May 13.
Individuals who suffered losses or damages as a result of the storm may seek assistance at the Disaster Recovery Center. FEMA urges affected individuals to first register for assistance before visiting the center. Registrations may be made by telephoning toll-free 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing and speech impaired, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week, or online at www.fema.gov.
Representatives of state, federal and voluntary agencies, including customer service representatives from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), will be on hand at the center to answer questions and provide recovery information. Written materials about various assistance programs and how to reduce damages from future disasters will be available.
FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
The Maine Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) has statutory responsibility for statewide coordination of emergency preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation. MEMA is a bureau of the Department of Defense, Veterans and Emergency Management.
