More Disaster Recovery Centers Open

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Three additional Disaster Recovery Centers will open in New Jersey Thursday to respond to the needs of residents of storm-tossed Hudson, Union and Mercer counties, FEMA officials announced today. With these new centers, FEMA will have nine Disaster Recovery Centers operating in the Garden State in the wake of Aprils noreaster storm and flooding.
We respond to residents needs. Thats our business, said Peter Martinasco, the Federal Coordinator Officer for NJ disaster relief. At the Disaster Recovery Centers, people will be able to check on the status of their applications, and also get important information on other federal programs for which they may be eligible.
The locations of the new centers are:

The three new centers will open at 10am Thursday, and stay open until 8pm. Thereafter they will be open each day from 8am to 8pm.
We want to be where the people who need us are, said George Georgeles of the NJ Office of Emergency Management. These additional recovery centers will extend our reach and speed the recovery process for everyone.
One way to speed the process, Lt. Georgeles noted, is to register for assistance before visiting the Disaster Recovery Centers. To register for assistance, residents should call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). Speech and hearing impaired residents should call TTY:1-800-462-7585.

The centers are a convenient way for residents to meet face to face with recovery experts and to check the status of their Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) registration for Individual Assistance, or to learn more about other assistance they may be eligible for.
FEMAs Individual Assistance program provides grants for temporary housing, transportation expenses, moving and storage expenses, funeral, medical and dental expenses. In addition, individuals who complete a SBA loan application -- even if they do not own a small business may be eligible for assistance that covers structural damage, personal property, vehicle repair or replacement. To find out whether you qualify, you must register. SBA disaster experts will be on hand in the Disaster Recovery Centers to help people fill out their SBA loan packages.
If you were affected by the April flooding and have not yet registered, you can do so by calling the FEMA registration line at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). Individuals with hearing or speech impairments should call (TTY) 1-800-462-7585. The registration lines are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., daily. You can also register online at www.fema.gov.
FEMA coordinates the federal governments role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
