Columbus, MS -- State, federal, local and voluntary agencies are working in partnership to help Mississippi residents recover from the recent severe storms and tornadoes. Following is a summary of ongoing response and recovery efforts as of close of business, Thursday, November 21, 2002. Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will update this information on a daily basis from their Joint Information Center in Jackson, Miss.
- To date, more than 800 individuals and business owners affected by the recent Mississippi severe storms and tornadoes have registered for assistance through FEMA's toll-free registration line. More than $300,000 has been approved for disaster housing assistance and more than $700,000 approved for other needs.
- The U.S. Small Business Administration has issued 184 home and 74 business loan applications and approved more than $284,200 in disaster loans.
