Columbus, MS -- The mobile Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) will be in Columbus on Thursday and Friday, November 21 and 22, at the Zion Gate Baptist Church at 1202 5th Street South. It will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Besides the mobile DRC there also is a center open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week at the former Lowe's Home Supply in the Winn-Dixie Marketplace at 2320 Highway 45 North.

The centers will be staffed with people who can answer questions and provide information about various kinds of assistance available to those who were affected by the recent severe storms and tornadoes. Representatives will help explain how to apply for money to pay for repairs, medical expenses or temporary housing, and for Disaster Unemployment Assistance. Loan officers from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) also will be on hand to help applicants.

"Visiting a DRC gives you the opportunity to sit down and talk to someone about the types of help available," said Michael Bolch, federal coordinating officer.

"Call now to register for assistance," said Leon Shaifer, state coordinating officer. "Or visit one of the centers. Whether in person or over the phone, we'll try to help you every step of the way."

Before visiting the center, you should first call the FEMA toll-free number to register at 800-621-3362, or for the speech or hearing impaired, 800-462-7585.
