Miami, FL -- South Florida residents who suffered losses in the floods that swamped the area on Oct. 3rd and 4th have only a few more days to register for most disaster assistance programs. Monday, December 4th, is the last day to file, according to federal and state disaster recovery officials.
Justo Hernandez, federal coordinating officer, and Shirley Collins, state coordinating officer, urge those who have not done so to register as soon as possible by calling the toll-free registration line at 1-800-462-9029, open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week. Hearing-or speech-impaired people using special keyboard equipment (TTY) should call 1-800-462-7585.
Renters, homeowners or business owners who live or do business anywhere in Broward, Collier, Miami-Dade and Monroe counties may be eligible for federal/state disaster aid programs. Assistance includes emergency disaster housing for renters and homeowners, grants to meet disaster-related needs unmet by other assistance programs, and U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) disaster loans. Individuals who register with FEMA and receive an SBA application need to file that application with SBA by the December 4th deadline.
