Phoenix, AZ -- The State of Arizona and the Federal Emergency Management Agency continue to operate from a joint Disaster Field Office in downtown Phoenix. These administrative offices coordinate with various government and voluntary agencies to provide a variety of recovery assistance programs to flood victims in La Paz and Maricopa counties.
Today David Fukutomi, Federal Coordinating Officer, and Michael P. Austin, Director of Arizona Division of Emergency Management, announced that legal services will be made available to victims of the October flooding. The Young Lawyers Division of the American Bar Association has offered free legal counseling to low-income persons or persons whose income or other resources have been greatly reduced as a result of this disaster. Assistance is available for disaster-related problems, which may include replacing legal documents, transferring titles, contracting problems, will probate or insurance problems.
Fee-generating cases (civil lawsuits for damages where legal fees are based on court or out-of-court settlements) are NOT eligible. Persons seeking assistance may cal 1-800-467-0385.
