Launching A New State Youth Task Force Pilot Program

Boston, MA -- WHO: The Jeremiah E. Burke High School, the US Department of Education, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) in conjunction with the One America initiative will host a discussion with 350 students addressing diversity and unity in our schools.
The discussion moderated by Setti D. Warren, Regional Director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency office in Boston and Jan Paschal, the Secretary's Regional Representative for the US Department of Education. In addition, the two agencies will launch a State Youth Task Force pilot Program involving 15 students selected from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to serve on a new State Youth Task Force. The role of the task force will be to identify and address issues about safety in our schools as well as develop strategies for the growing diversity in our schools.
WHAT: In June 1997, the creation of the President's Initiative on Race was announced. This year's theme, "Many Paths, One Journey: Building One America," reflects our commitment to educating students on diversity-related issues and providing all students with the opportunity to succeed in our ever increasing multicultural world. This initiative was designed to help the United States build One America in the 21st century to develop a nation of people who respect their diversity and embrace the values that unite them.
