ORLANDO, Fla. -- A Mobile Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs), operated by the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the State Emergency Response Team (SERT) will be in Bradford County from Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, through Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005. .

The center will operate from noon to 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 27, and then be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the following dates:

Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004 to Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004
Monday, Jan. 3, 2005 to Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005

All DRCs—fixed and mobile—will be closed on Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, Saturday, Jan.1, 2005, and Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005 for the New Year holiday.

Mobile DRC Units provide disaster registrants in the areas they serve with an opportunity to check on the status of their applications and meet with federal and state disaster program representatives, as well as loan officers from the U.S. Small Business Administration. Mitigation counselors will be available to assist anyone with rebuilding or renovation questions. An applicant may visit any one of the fixed-site and Mobile DRC Units now operating statewide.

Individuals and business owners with damages and losses from the recent hurricanes are urged to register for assistance first by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). The TTY number for speech- or hearing-impaired individuals is 1-800-462-7585. Both numbers operate from 6 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week. After applying, those who have questions may visit a center to meet face-to-face with recovery specialists.

Applicants may also register online by going to the FEMA website at http://www.fema.gov and clicking on the red “hot-link” button in the upper right-hand portion of the page marked “Register for Disaster Assistance Online.”

FEMA prepares the nation for all hazards and manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, trains first responders, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of
Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
