MOBILE, Ala. -- As the holidays approach and thoughts turn to giving, why not consider a gift that could protect a loved one in the event of an emergency. They may not be the most exciting gifts to give but they may save a life, save property or make dealing with a disaster a little easier.

The Alabama Emergency Management Agency (AEMA) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) have the following suggestions:

This holiday season may be the perfect time to give the gift that offers that special person greater protection and a sense of security during times of emergency.

FEMA prepares the nation for all hazards and effectively manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
