ORLANDO, Fla. -- As the holidays approach and thoughts turn to gift giving, what does one give to that special person who “has everything?”

Florida’s State Emergency Response Team (SERT) and the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) have some suggestions.

Having experienced first-hand, the fear, uncertainty and anxiety of living through the worst hurricane season in memory, Floridians today have a better understanding for how they might better prepare themselves for future disasters.

This holiday season may be the perfect time to give the gift that offers that special person greater protection and sense of security during times of emergency.

The following are some of SERT’s and FEMA’s holiday gift suggestions:

SERT and FEMA recognize these may not be the fanciest or most exciting gifts to give but they may save a life, save property or make dealing with a disaster a little easier.

On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA’s continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
