NEW ORLEANS, La. –– With more than 67,000 temporary homes already occupied in Louisiana, assisting those who need temporary housing continues to be a top priority for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the State of Louisiana.
This week in Louisiana: At the close of business on April 23 there were 64,252 occupied travel trailers and mobile homes on private, industrial, group and commercial sites and 3,010 occupied federal housing resources provided by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
The following charts provide detailed information on the types of temporary housing available and a listing, by parish, of housing units currently occupied:

FEMA manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003 .
