Disaster Recovery Training Set for Diamondhead and Moss Point

BILOXI, Miss. -- Disaster Recovery Training and Tools workshops are scheduled this week in Diamondhead and Moss Point for individuals and groups who are providing long-term recovery assistance to Hurricane Katrina victims. The workshops will offer specialized training in volunteer management, financial and strategic planning, case management, warehousing and more.

On Tuesday, April 25, the workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Diamondhead.

The Wednesday, April 26, workshop is at the Jackson County Civic Action Center, 5343 Jefferson St. in Moss Point from 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.

These trainings, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), will include training components by Church World Service, Lutheran Disaster Response, AmeriCorps, Coordinated Assistance Network (CAN) and others. Participants will receive manuals and disaster resources to use immediately.

FEMA manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003
