Disaster Recovery Center To Open In Delaware County

Oklahoma City, Okla. -- A Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) will open Saturday, April 22, as a direct information resource for Delaware County residents applying for disaster assistance resulting from the March 12 tornado and storms, according to state and federal officials.

Located at Kansas High School , 100 North Woods Ave., Kansas , OK, the DRC will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Saturday, April 22, through Friday, April 28, according to the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management (OEM).

Anyone with damages and losses caused by the storms or tornado is urged to first register for assistance by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362 ) [the TTY number is 1-800-462-7585 for those who are speech or hearing-impaired] from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week. An application may also be made online at www.fema.gov/assistance/, 24 hours a day. After applying, anyone with questions can visit the DRC to meet face-to-face with recovery specialists.

Representatives of state, federal, and voluntary agencies, as well as Customer Service Representatives from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), will be on hand to answer questions and provide recovery information.

The SBA makes low-interest federal disaster loans available to homeowners, renters, and both businesses and private non-profit organizations of all sizes, whose property was damaged or destroyed in the declared county. The SBA also makes disaster loans available to qualified small businesses (located in the primary and neighboring counties) that have suffered economic injuries as a result of the disaster.

FEMA prepares the nation for all hazards and manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, trains first responders, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program.
