FEMA and IEMA to Open Disaster Recovery Centers in Springfield on Tuesday to Serve Illinois Storm Victims

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- To help meet the ongoing needs of those who suffered damage from the severe storms and tornadoes, which struck March 11-13, the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announce that two Disaster Recovery Centers will open in Springfield on Tuesday, April 4. The centers provide a single location where people are able to talk face-to-face with recovery specialists.
Before visiting a Disaster Recovery Center applicants should call FEMA's toll-free number, 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), TTY 1-800-462-7585. Both numbers are available 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week until further notice, and multilingual operators are available to answer your call. People may also register online at www.fema.gov.
Representatives from local, state and federal agencies, and some private-sector organizations, will staff the Disaster Recovery Centers. Visitors can:
- Inquire about the status of the application they have already made by phone;
- Obtain referrals for temporary rental assistance resources;
- Receive assistance completing U.S. Small Business Administration low-interest loan applications for homeowners, renters or business owners;
- Receive federal tax assistance;
- Learn cost-effective measures to reduce the impact of future disaster losses.
The following centers will open Tuesday, April 4 at 10 a.m. and will be open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closed Sunday. (Note: The Centers will be open Sunday, April 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.):

FEMA manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
