SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Due to declining visits, the Wharton Disaster Recovery Center located at 1210 N. Richmond Rd will close at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec 10.

Nearly 1,400 visits were recorded at the center since it opened Oct. 28. "Although the center is closing, area residents can still apply for disaster assistance programs," said Texas Division of Emergency Management State Coordinating Officer Ed Laundy.

Those who have not registered can call the toll-free registration number at 1-800-462-9029, (TTY: 1-800-462-7585), Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The final day for applying for disaster assistance is Dec. 21.

For those who have already applied for assistance and have questions about the status of their application, the FEMA Helpline is available from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The Helpline number is 1-800-525-0321, (TTY: 1-800-660-8005).
