SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The San Antonio Disaster Recovery Center at the Lincoln Community Center, 2915 E. Commerce St., will close this Thursday, Dec. 17 at 6 p.m. The Center has been visited more than 2,064 times since its opening Oct. 28.

"The deadline for applying for disaster assistance for Bexar County residents is Dec. 21," said Ed Laundy, Texas Division of Emergency Management's State Coordinating Officer. "Pick up the phone and make that call today."

San Antonio area residents who have not applied must call the toll free number 1-800-462-9029 (TTY: 1-800-462-7585) by Monday, Dec. 21 at 6 p.m. They also must fill out the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) forms if provided to them-whether or not they intend to apply for a loan-because this is the only way the application process can continue.

For information about the status of applications currently pending, the Helpline toll-free number is 1-800-525-0321 (TTY: 1-800-660-8005). SBA loan status information is 1-800-366-6303.

"Please do not delay your initial filing," said Robert Hendrix, Federal Coordinating Officer for the Federal Emergency Management Agency. "There is no grace period if you miss the Dec. 21 deadline."

Almost 5,000 Bexar County residents have applied since the devastating storms, floods and tornadoes of Oct. 17-31.
