TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- FEMA/state aid to residents and business owners who suffered damages in Hurricane Georges and Tropical Storm Mitch have exceeded $74 million, Deputy Federal Coordinator Pat Seaman of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) said today.

More than $71 million has been approved to date for damages in Monroe and the 16 Florida Panhandle counties included in the Georges declaration. More than $2.8 million has been approved for tornado and flood damages in Monroe and Palm Beach counties included in the Mitch declaration.

The application period for Georges has ended but those with damages suffered during Mitch have until Jan. 4, 1999, to apply for aid. The toll-free FEMA registration number is 1-800-462-9029, or 1-800-462-7585 for those with speech or hearing impairments.
