FEMA Mobile Disaster Recovery Center Opens In Rankin County To Assist Disaster Applicants

Jackson, MS -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) mobile Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) will be in Brandon beginning Friday, May 16, to bring state and federal assistance information directly into neighborhoods raked by the April 6th through 14th severe storms, tornadoes and flooding.

The DRC, a satellite-equipped mobile unit, will be in Brandon for four days, Friday, Saturday, Monday and Tuesday, May 16, 17, 19 and 20, 2003. The unit will be closed Sunday, May 18.

The mobile DRC will visit the area to advise residents on how to obtain the disaster aid they are eligible to receive. It will be located in the closed Winn-Dixie parking lot at 1323 West Government Street, in Brandon. The hours of operation will be 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Staffed by disaster assistance specialists from FEMA, U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) and other state agencies, the mobile unit will enable those who have registered for assistance to check the status of their applications and inquire about programs. The application number is 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). The number for the speech and hearing impaired is 1-800-462-7585.

Disaster Recovery Centers serve people in the declared disaster area who have already applied for assistance and have questions about their application or about what various forms of disaster assistance may be available to them.
