FEMA Unveils Significantly-Expanded Web Site En Español To Ensure All Americans Can Access The Latest Preparedness Information

Washington, D.C. - The Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is unveiling an expanded Spanish Web site on May 1, 2003, to provide the Spanish-speaking community with information about FEMA, disaster resources, preparedness articles, children’s books and links to other disaster-related sites in Spanish. The Web site address is: www.fema.gov/spanish.

“Every American needs to participate in preparing their families and this website will help make that possible,” said Michael D. Brown, Undersecretary of Homeland Security for Emergency Preparedness and Response. “From how to assemble an emergency supply kit to more information about FEMA’s disaster assistance, this is a one-stop information shop for the Spanish-speaking community.”

The Web site can be reached through FEMA’s award-winning site, www.fema.gov by clicking the En Español link, or directly via its own address. It will feature the main story from our English site, and seasonal messages including hurricane, flood and winter weather preparedness.

“The availability of this information in Spanish is a useful and efficient tool for our citizens,” said Rafael L. Guzmán, Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Emergency Management Agency. “It also demonstrates FEMA’s commitment to the Hispanic community.”
