Richmond, KY -- Federal and state disaster officials will open a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) at the Williamson City Fire Department, April 12 in Williamson, West Virginia.

The recovery center is also available for residents of Kentucky's declared disaster counties who may have questions about their requests for federal and state assistance, and want to speak with someone face-to-face.

Applicants are encouraged to first register with FEMA by calling 1-800-621-3362, the number for those with speech or hearing impairments is 1-800-462-7585. Lines are open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

The Williamson Disaster Recovery Center's address is 104 East 4th Avenue. The DRC will be open Saturday through Tuesday, April 15, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. All DRCs are closed on Sunday.

FEMA said the proximity of the Kentucky border counties to Recovery Centers already open in Ohio and West Virginia makes it both convenient and economical to offer the services to Kentucky residents.

Separate disaster declarations were issued in each state for damage caused by severe winter storms in February.

Kentucky residents from any declared county are encouraged to visit the center for information on disaster programs. The same information is also available by calling FEMA's Helpline at 1-800-621-3362. Lines are open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Disaster Recovery Centers are staffed with federal and state personnel who can answer specific questions about disaster assistance, provide information on ways to reduce the impact of future disasters, and even help applicants complete their U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) disaster loan application.
