FEMA's toll-free disaster registration line and Helpline will be open on the holiday. Those affected by the WTC attack do not need to visit the FEMA/SBA Applicant Assistance Center in order to register for assistance with FEMA; they can apply by phone by calling 1-800-462-9029 (TTY: 1-800-462-7585), Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The teleregistration process is the starting point for a range of federal and state disaster assistance programs and services, including mortgage and rental assistance; crisis counseling; and low-interest loans for businesses. The application deadline for FEMA and SBA individual and business assistance programs is Jan. 31, 2003.

If you have already registered with FEMA for disaster assistance, you can update your information or check on the status of your application by calling the FEMA Helpline at 1-800-525-0321 (TTY: 1-800-462-7585). All operators have access to interpreter services, accommodating the diverse language needs of the New York metropolitan area.
