New York, NY -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Applicant Assistance Center will be closed on Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday.
Serving applicants impacted by the World Trade Center (WTC) attack, the Assistance Center will resume operations the following day, Tuesday, Jan. 21. Regular hours for the facility (the former DMV Building), which is located at 141 Worth St. in lower Manhattan, are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Visitors to the Applicant Assistance Center can meet one-on-one with FEMA and SBA program representatives who will evaluate their individual needs, check on the status of their applications or update their registration information.

FEMA's toll-free disaster registration line and Helpline will be open on the holiday. Those affected by the WTC attack do not need to visit the FEMA/SBA Applicant Assistance Center in order to register for assistance with FEMA; they can apply by phone by calling 1-800-462-9029 (TTY: 1-800-462-7585), Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The teleregistration process is the starting point for a range of federal and state disaster assistance programs and services, including mortgage and rental assistance; crisis counseling; and low-interest loans for businesses. The application deadline for FEMA and SBA individual and business assistance programs is Jan. 31, 2003.

All operators have access to interpreter services, accommodating the diverse language needs of the New York metropolitan area.
